Maharashtra: A dead snakelet was found inside a premix food packet given to a beneficiary of nutrition scheme for pregnant women

A dead snakelet was found inside a premix food packet given to a beneficiary of nutrition scheme for pregnant women, lactating mothers and babies between six months to three years.

The beneficiary is a resident of Palus town in Sangli district and the incident was brought to the notice of the authorities on Tuesday.

After receiving the complaint, Sangli district collector Raja Dayanidhi ordered a thorough inquiry and find lapses in delivery of the food packets. The inquiry report is awaited.

Meanwhile, Palus-Kadegaon assembly constituency’s MLA Vishwajeet Kadam raised the issue in ongoing session of the assembly. He said, “It has been brought to my notice about spotting of a dead snakelet in the premix food provided to a pregnant woman from Palus.

Earlier, cereals and grain were provided separately. However, since the last few months, a private company has been hired by state govt to provide the premix food packet. There must be serious lapse in handling of the food packets.”
